BOB KAPHEIM
Fine Art – Portraits – Photography-Song Writer

Artist, photographer, song writer, singer, traveler, former race car driver, wrestler, football and rugby player are some of the variety of experiences that Kapheim has enjoyed in his many trips around the Sun. All of these life experiences have affected his art.
          During his career, Dr. Bob Kapheim has served as an educator, presenter, consultant, and author. Bob is a professor of biology at Judson University. As an award winning educator he has taught biology and general science at the high school level. Later he served as the Head of the Upper School and Dean at the Science and Arts Academy, a private school for gifted. For eight years, Kapheim served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Pearson Education Publishing. He has managed cohort Master’s degree programs, discrete graduate level courses, and distance learning programs. As a consultant, he has given programs throughout the United States on brain-based learning, multiple intelligences, cooperative education, authentic assessment, critical and creative thinking, and Socratic dialogue.  Bob also formerly taught graduate courses in education at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. He has served as a presenter at state and national conferences on science, gifted children, and education. Kapheim is the author of Question the Thought, a book on Socratic dialogue. As an art instructor he has taught students that range from elementary school to senior citizens.
          Over the past five years Kapheim has received over 60 awards for his art and photography. Included in these awards was the Grand Champion and Best of Show at the DuPage County Art Fair in 2009 and First place award for an artist at the 9th and 10th Festival D’arts at DeVry University in both 2009 and 2010. He has developed photographic essays on various topics including “Detroit Iron” a collection of photos of abandoned cars and trucks rusting in fields or alongside barns in rural Illinois and Arkansas. In 2009 and 2011, he held a one man show in Hot Springs, Arkansas. In 2012, he had a show of his "Torso Tags" photography Jan. thru March at the Rock Art Gallery in Chicago as well as sculpture and drawings at the DuPage Art League and the Oak Park Art League. He has studied oil painting in the Italian Masters style under Dominic Vignola. Kapheim, is a member of the DuPage Art League, Wheaton, Illinois, the Oak Park Art League and the FineLine Art Center in St. Charles. Recently he has expanded his art to include glass fusion jewelry, stain glass art and instruction in glass blowing. In addition to his photography, Kapheim enjoys doing portraits, cartooning, and color pencil drawings along with his new interest in glass fusion jewelry and dishes.  Kapheim is available for commission work in fine art or photography.
          A resident of Pingree Grove, Illinois, Bob and his wife, Lynn also have a home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
